Thoughts on the Process of Painting #2

August 18, 2010

It's been a while since I've written. I have had other pressing life issues to attend to but life is coming back around. I had been focusing on tattooing these last few months. It's so exciting and so much fun. I will soon post images of what I am doing. In the mean time my fine art is still my priority. I have gotten out to paint on sight which was exhilirating and I have been mentally and somewhat physically working out my Series on a "Scorned Woman" for 2011. I hope to be moving to Providence soon. It's all so exciting!!
I will try to get better at posting on my blog. I have many more ideas I've yet to implement so be on the look out! Why did I think I think I needed a man in my life??? Jeeez!!!

I came across a video on Facebook I thought was very well said and wanted to share. I've always quoted the saying "There's nothing new under the sun" I have learned a long time ago in order to learn and grow as an individual artist we need to "copy" or study other artists work. That is why provisions are made at museums where a student artist can set up and copy the work of the masters.

As much as I have tried to "copy" though ,for example, my teacher and mentors work, Ernest Principato, I can't. I can only take general technique and ideas and just like a signature it comes from me in my own way. If you have an interest in learning more about the process of art please click on this link and view this video I think you will enjoy it!

Again I haven't had time to get to this blog but I am getting closer to many things relating to my art. I am like a sponge these days. I am in total learning mode. Not only am I taken courses relating to design but my connections to Facebook and examining others art and why they create is teaching me so much. I feel like I am starting my life right now. It's very exciting!! I hope you find my journey interesting enough to follow. I may be a little slow with my posts but for you that may be a good thing in light of your busy lives. I am in this awesome space in Providence RI right now that can only be conducive to creativity.
so please follow along.

PS. My work is hanging at Amy's Place on Wickenden St in Providence, probably until the end of November, so please go have a coffee or omelet and check it out.
